The 1968 debut album by Os Mutantes is one of the absolute cornerstones of the Brazilian Tropiclia movement. The band, consisting of brothers Arnaldo and Srgio Dias Baptista and singer Rita Lee, created a revolutionary and colorful sound. They blended Western psychedelic rock and avant-garde with traditional Brazilian rhythms and a healthy dose of humor. The result is an album that is as playful as it is groundbreaking, far ahead of its time. Tracks such as the iconic 'Panis Et Circensis', 'Baby' (written by Caetano Veloso), and the percussive 'Bat Macumba' showcase the trio's unbridled creativity.
Musical Style: An influential mix of Tropiclia, psychedelic rock, and avant-pop, combining the experimental drive of Western rock with the rhythmic richness of Brazil.
