Originally released in 1978 on Muse Records, Double Exposure is a rare and genre-blurring session that brings together two visionary musicians in a highly personal, exploratory setting. Drummer-composer Joe Chambersbest known for his work with Wayne Shorter, Bobby Hutcherson, and Freddie Hubbardis joined by Larry Young, a pioneering jazz organist whose modal and avant-garde leanings helped define Tony Williams Lifetime and Miles Daviss Bitches Brew era.
Double Exposure isnt a conventional organ-and-drums recordits a deeply textural and often introspective album where post-bop, spiritual jazz, and early fusion sensibilities converge. Tracks like Mind Rain (later sampled by Nas for "N.Y. State of Mind") showcase Chambers emotional range as a composer. Larry Youngs organ and synthesizer work is atmospheric and searching, veering far from soul-jazz clichs into modal abstraction and cosmic drift.
