The sessions that produced this album marked the first of only two studio albums featuring Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan. Basically this is the same instrumentation employed by Mulligan in his classic piano-less quartet with Chet Baker, but with Desmonds alto instead of Bakers trumpet. A highly lyrical player, Desmonds sound fits perfectly with the deep sound of Mulligans baritone sax, and their interplay is very satisfying.
