Star pianist Daniil Trifonov burst on to the international scene winning the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011.
With this album, Trifonov returns to the music of Tchaikovsky in a beautiful selection of solo works evoking youth and family.
We think of him, says the celebrated pianist, as an archetypical Romantic and a troubled soul.
But particularly in his younger years, Tchaikovsky found joy in his close relationships and emotional comfort in his family. The selected pieces include the rarely-performed Sonata Op.80, the Childrens Album, the Variations Op.19/6 and Pletnevs Concert Suite from Sleeping Beauty.
They reflect Tchaikovsky at his most effervescent and intimate and contain some of Trifonovs most electrifying playing to date.
